Roots are mysterious organs that carry out essential functions for the survival of the plant. Some species of plants develop extensive systems whose gross biomass greatly exceeds that of the matter growing above ground. Functioning in water absorption, anchorage, and nutrient acquisition, with the assistance of mycorrhiza fungi, the roots carry out a large percentage of processes crucial for plant survival

The production of leaf venation in dicotyledonous angiosperms is relatively diverse, due to the meristematic potential, producing unique venation systems. The development of leaf venation is unique to families and genera down to the individual leaf. The most common production of the vascular system occurs when the leaf is developing its final form and size this is when morphogenesis of the venation system begins. The provascular tissue will differentiate creating a hierarchical system of venation throughout the lamina. The final pattern produced is highly variable, however most dicotyledonous plants will create a reticulate pattern. The evolution of these patterns has occurred over millions of years rising independently through different lineages.

Angiosperms have an especially showy form of reproduction. The reproductive organs that create the flower attract animals to fertilize the plant. Motivated by the promise of nectar, animals are drawn to the flowers by a suite of traits that together create a staggering diversity of form and function among the flowering plants.
